Privacy

The short version: what you type about your car is used only to produce your result and is never stored. You don’t need an account.

Your car description

When you press Check my car, your description, any warning lights you picked, the vehicle details you entered and your chosen country are sent (your town stays in your browser and is only used to sort garage listings) over an encrypted connection to our server on Cloudflare. It passes them to an AI model running on Cloudflare Workers AI and returns the result to your browser. GrepKit doesn’t store or log what you typed, and Cloudflare doesn’t keep it or use it to train models. Your IP address is checked briefly to limit how often one visitor can run a check, then discarded.

Please don’t include personal details such as your name, phone number, address or number plate. They aren’t needed.

Speaking instead of typing

If you tap Tap to speak, your browser asks for microphone permission and records only until you tap stop (at most 90 seconds). The recording is sent over an encrypted connection to our server on Cloudflare, turned into text by a speech-recognition model (OpenAI Whisper, running on Cloudflare Workers AI), and the text is put in the box for you to check. The recording is not stored by GrepKit, and Cloudflare doesn’t keep it or use it for training. The “Read it out loud” button uses your device’s built-in voice and sends nothing anywhere.

Links to stores and maps

“Shop for parts” links open the retailer’s own website, and “Find a garage near me” opens a Google Maps search for the type of repair (never your description). Those sites have their own privacy policies.

What is stored in your browser

Visitor counter

The site shows how many drivers have used GrepKit. On your first visit your browser sends one anonymous “+1”. Only the running total is stored — no IP address, cookie or device ID.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they use and roughly where they come from (country, referring site, device type). Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) and receives page addresses, browser and device details and an approximate location derived from your IP address. It never receives your car description. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies for this site.

Advertising

We show ads from Google AdSense to keep GrepKit free. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalised ads in Google’s Ads Settings, and learn more at How Google uses cookies in advertising. Ads never receive your car description or voice recording.

Business listings

Garages and stores that apply for a listing email us their business details. We use those details only to set up and manage the listing.

Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may keep standard, short-lived server logs of page requests (such as IP address and page URL) for security and reliability.
